Mug storage for a small home café
Count the mugs you actually use before adding a display rack. Cupboard storage, a freestanding tree and a small daily selection solve different problems.

Plan your setup
- Choose a daily number. Keep the mugs needed for your usual routine near the brewer. Store occasional guest mugs elsewhere. Test a smaller collection before buying a rack.
- Measure the loaded shape. Measure the widest mug including its handle. For a tree, consider the full sweep of loaded mugs, not only the base. Check vertical clearance above the top mug.
- Check removal and stability. You should be able to lift one mug without striking another, moving a hot appliance or pulling the rack toward the counter edge. Follow the maker’s loading instructions; heavy mugs may not suit every stand.
- Compare with the cupboard. Try placing daily mugs on an existing shelf first. Do not stack cups unless their maker supports it. Wall or under-shelf hooks require a separate fit, load and permission check; they are not automatically renter-safe.
Compare the approaches
| Approach | Consider it for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Existing cupboard | You want a clear counter | Requires a reachable shelf and enough handle room |
| Freestanding tree | You want visible daily mugs and have a stable clear area | Loaded mugs increase the footprint; verify spacing |
| Smaller daily selection | Your current rack or cupboard is crowded | Requires putting occasional mugs elsewhere |

Simple Houseware rotating mug tree
Fit check: Listing describes six mug positions and an overall envelope of about 30.5 × 30.5 × 48.3 cm. Loaded mug handles may extend beyond it.
Trade-off: The title and summary disagree on finish/material. Verify the selected variant, mug spacing and stability before buying. A tall tree may use more space than your existing cupboard.
