Baskets or shelf dividers?
06 / ShelvesUse a basket when you need to lift a group of small items together. Use a divider when you want upright separation and quick access to individual items.
- For baskets, allow room to grip the handle and lift out the contents.
- For dividers, check shelf thickness, mounting style and compatibility.
- Keep frequently used items visible and reachable.
Measure the shelf opening, including any front lip. A row of matching containers is not useful if it hides things you need every day.

Decide what needs a boundary and what needs a container
- Group one shelf first. Fold clothing to a consistent footprint. If stacks stay stable, you may not need dividers. Put small loose accessories in a basket you already own.
- Measure attachment points. Record shelf depth, vertical clearance, thickness and any front lip. A clip that suits a solid board may not fit wire shelving.
- Try the daily movement. Allow space to lift a basket and pull a garment out. Avoid a layout that requires emptying the shelf to reach the item at the back.
